Rachel Thornton; Artist/Printmaker
My name is Rachel; I live and work in the rural North Yorkshire town of High Bentham. I graduated from a Fine Arts Degree in 2013 where I was awarded with a First. During my studies I exhibited world wide and had my work accepted into exhibitions such as the Wrexham International Print Exhibition which toured the UK. I also taught various print workshops at the Harris Museum In Preston. I was awarded with the ArtLab Fellowship Award for my degree show, this was well received as it allowed me free access to the universities print studio for a year after graduation.
I now work with ambitions and experimental printmaking methods to create unique pieces that engage the imagination. My illustrative style translates seamlessly into print methods, but I am always taking things further. I continuously experiment and expand on the methods and materials I use. This love for experimentation has brought forth my own unique ways of creating, this in turn allows me to develop a unique style and form. Combining printmaking, painting and wood carving methods I create one off natural artworks.
I am currently working from a new creative space called STUDIO 42 where I also occasionally run printmaking workshops.
I often attend Art and Craft Fairs around the UK and have exhibited in places such New York, Pakistan, Australia, Parallax Art Fair – Chelsea, to local events such as the Lunesdale Trail, and North Yorkshire Open Studios.
I regularly take on commissioned work from private buyers. If you're interested in commissioning a wood artwork for your home please feel free to email me.
